Joan Bowman is Vice President of External Affairs for the Global Food Protection Institute (GFPI) and the International Food Protection Training Institute (IFPTI) located in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Joan has been with the organization from the very beginning, being the first hired employee. In her previous role as the Director of Communications, Joan spearheaded all of the marketing and communications efforts for GFPI and IFPTI and she also coordinated the key relationships with members of Congress, as well as other federal and state officials, who are important stakeholders to GFPI and IFPTI.
As Vice President of External Affairs, Joan will continue with all marketing and communications and will also be responsible for government relations.
Prior to joining GFPI and IFPTI in August, 2009, for 7 years, Joan was the Regional Director of West Michigan for Governor Jennifer M. Granholm. In her role as Regional Director she served as the Governor’s liaison and ombudsman for the region. Prior to her position with the Governor’s office, she worked for Huntington Bank in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Joan holds a degree in Economics from the University of Minnesota.
